ALAS - Algen-Lichtakklimatisierungstrategie zur Maximierung des Wachstums in Bioreaktoren

ALAS: FFG BRIDGE Project

About ALAS

Algae currently have a niche role in green industries, but have potential to provide much more. To do so, we need to understand photosynthesis and metabolism better. Led by Dr. Thomas Roach from the University of Innsbruck, the ALAS project aims to advance our understanding of which regulatory processes of photosynthesis are required under various growth conditions, and the influence they have on metabolism. The model green alga, Chlamydomonas reinhardtii, will be used to enable access to mutants available for testing the relevance of processes revealed to be important.

Aims

The scientific goal of this research project is to improve our understanding of the energy flows in the chloroplast and in the mitochondria and the metabolite exchange between these two organelles under variable light conditions in terms of primary metabolism and growth.
