Glutamate

Description

Glutamic acid or Glutamate as the sole substrate is transported by the electroneutral glutamate-/OH- exchanger, and is oxidized via glutamate dehydrogenase in the mitochondrial matrix. Ammonia can pass freely through the mitochondrial membrane.
