Ion Selective Electrode (ISE)

Ion Selective Electrodes detects Ions use a potentiometric method. The selectivity of each ISE is established by an ion sensitive membrane. Oroboros Instruments has developed a ion selective electrode (ISE) system, consisting of separate reference and measuring electrodes, available as sets of two or one electrodes. Complete systems including accessories are available containing two [ISE Package 2 TPP or Ca] or one electrodes.

The membrane of the electrode can be exchanged therefore the ISE system may be used to do detect different parameters. Currently Oroboros Instruments is selling membranes for the detection of TPP+ ions. In this case the ISE system is a TPP electrode. TPP electrodes are used to measure mitchondrial membrane potential.
