Here we aim at a fundamental introduction into the basics of high-resolution respirometry and elements of mitochondrial physiology. This mosaic may evolve to combine the elements into a picture of modern mitochondrial respiratory physiology, progressively including information on user-innovation and concepts emerging within the World-Wide Mitochondrial Physiology Network.
