Spectrofluorometer

Description

A spectrofluorometer makes use of a spectrophotometer to measure and analyse the fluorescent emission spectra from a fluorophore. It will typically differ from an absorbance spectrophotometer in that it will have a larger slit width (to increase sensitivity) and use a longer integration time. The configuration of the illuminating and receiving optics also differ from spectrophotometry in that the excitation source is directed perpendicularly to the position of the emission detector so that the intensity of the excitation signal reaching the detector is minimised.
