| : The circle is an orobouros - a mythical serpent eating its own tail - that was created by Prof. Tantillo in response to a suggestion by Roald Hoffmann; and emphasizes both the cyclic nature of pericyclic transition structures as well as the fact that the article accompanying this illustration marked Roald's return to the topic of simple pericyclic reactions of hydrocarbons, nearly three decades after he first described many of their key electronic features.
