Description

Amplex red is an extrinsic fluorophore that makes use of the fact that ROS generate hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂) and it is the H₂O₂ level that Amplex red is used to measure. In the presence of horseradish peroxidise, Amplex red reacts with H₂O₂ to produce the red fluorescent compound resorufin (excitation wavelength 563nm, emission 587nm). The emitted fluorescence intensity is directly proportional to the H₂O₂ concentration.
