- The Bioblast Wiki is open for contributions in the spirit of Gentle Science. Bioblast was launched on 2010-07-12 as a glossary and index for Mitochondrial Physiology (MitoPedia) and high-resolution respirometry (Oroboros Instruments), to find topics quickly, as a dynamic tool for definitions of terms, symbols, and abbreviations, and to connect scientists in the field of mitochondrial physiology.

- Catalytically working as an Information synthase, MitoPedia supports the decentralized evolution of a glossary of scientific terms, for developing a consistent nomenclature in the growing field of mitochondrial physiology.
- The category Publications provides a portal for sharing, disseminating and commenting relevant literature in mitochondrial physiology, with context-related 'filters' for references. Bioblast allows the “evolution” of a scientific publication – providing space for open discussions and extensions of an otherwise static ‘paper’. This applies specifically to Methods and Materials, Discussion, and References sections, which may be limited by space in original publications. For example, O2k-Protocols are found now more quickly and users are encouraged to contribute and share their expertise.
- Bioblast provides a platform for Gentle Science  in the spirit of Scientific Social Responsibility. The icon of Gentle Science is Ganesha.

- The homepage of Oroboros Instruments was moved to Bioblast (2014-2015), following the wiki-based O2k-Protocols, O2k-Publications and the O2k-Network. The Bioblast wiki is edited and moderated by the Oroboros team as a support for scientists in the field of high-resolution respirometry and the O2k-Network, and as an approach of Gentle Science. - This - Bioblast logo is derived from original artwork by Odra Noel on the inner mitochondrial membrane showing the ATP synthase - appropriate for the concept of Bioblast as an information synthase. The information synthase is combined with the Oroboros logo - cooperation and feedback in science. To help us maintaining a high scientific standard in the Bioblast wiki, we invite scientists and students to join our Bioblast editorial team.
- What is a wiki?
- A wiki (from the Hawaiian word wiki, meaning “fast”)  is a technology for creating dynamic and collaborative websites. Quoting Ward Cunningham, the developer of the first wiki software WikiWikiWeb, it is “the simplest online database that could possibly work” . Any user of the Bioblast Wiki will recognize the navigation tools of the software MediaWiki - that make the Wikipedia so popular and easy to use.
- What is a wiki?
- Contributions are invited by students and experts in the field. If successful and with support by active organizations, Bioblast Wiki may extend to cover mitochondrial health and disease, in nutrition and sports, for patients and practitioners, diagnosis and therapy - for all who care about Life and a life style in cooperation with the bioblasts.
- How does it work?
- We invite scientists, students and technicians in the field of mitochondrial physiology and pathology to join as ‘active users’ in the spirit of Gentle Science, to ensure that the Bioblast Wiki will develop into a database of top-quality scientific information. This can be achieved only by an expert-moderated wiki – with input and feedback of a large benevolent user community of experts in mitochondrial physiology.
- How does it work?
- All of you can shape the Bioblast Wiki by bringing together scientists working in divergent disciplines, to discuss, to resolve differences, to spread new knowledge and techniques; thus meeting the demand to integrate current developments in the methodologically and conceptually complex field of mitochondrial physiology.
- How to register?
- A gradually increasing community of ‘active users’ implies a growth of the Bioblast Wiki following the concept of Tempo giusto (the appropriate speed). To be able to log in, you have to create your personal account. Please use your real name, as you would do in a scientific publication. Anonymous or pseudonymous contributions to Bioblast do not follow the scientific attitude of publication, and may be removed from the Bioblast Wiki.
