Ouabain

Description

Ouabain (synonym: G-strophantin octahydrate) is a poisonous cardiac glycoside. The classical mechanism of action of ouabain involves its binding to and inhibition of the plasma membrane Na+/K+-ATPase (sodium pump) especially at the higher concentrations. Low (nanomolar and subnanomolar) concentrations of ouabain stimulate the Na-K-ATPase.

Abbreviation: Oua

Application in HRFR

Oua: Ouabain octahydrate (β‰₯95% (HPLC), powder; C29H44O12*8H20); Sigma O 3125, store at R.T.; FW = 728.77.

Caution: Light sensitive and toxic!

Preparation of 10 mM stock solution (dissolved in H2O):

1) Weigh 7.3 mg ouabain.
2) Dissolve in 1 ml H2O.
3) Divide into 0.2 ml portions or store in 2 ml glass vial and use subsamples during experiments to avoid contamination of the storage solution.
4) Store in glass vials (recommendation) at -20 Β°C.
