We routinely (up to 4 human and mouse studies) measure respiration supported by glycolytic and fatty acid substrates using SUIT protocols in permeabilized muscle fibers. We always use palmitoylcarnitine. In the past, in Dr. Schrauwen’s lab, we used octanoate to titrate for fatty acid induced uncoupling.
