Considerations on preprints to publications

• Gnaiger Erich (talk) 10:11, 12 March 2020 (CET) 'Bioenergetics Communications' is the Oroboros journal aiming at rapid communication as part of the quality of science transfer, yet considering precautions against 'bad science'. The distinction between preprint and publication is used in a stepwise process:

1. 'MitoFit Preprint Archives' is the fast lane of Open Access communication without peer review. Authors should indicate, if the preprint is considered for 'Bioenergetics Communications' or not.
2. 'MitoFit Preprint Archives' and 'Bioenergetics Communications' accept a variety of formats of the communcations, such that the authors can focus on the quality of their work.
3. Preprints posted by the authors as potential publications in 'Bioenergetics Communications' are immediately delegated to our section editors for
   1. direct communication with the authors to plan the Open Peer review process (non-anonymous);
   2. external review which should lead quickly to publication in 'Bioenergetics Communications' (Version 1) including the correspondence with the reviewer(s) as an appended discussion - without the option for reviewers to insist on additional experiments, but strict focus on the quality of the presently provided information;
   3. encourage follow-up interlaboratory collaborations, when contributions by reviewers may be integrated and reviewers are listed as coauthors and declared as such in the section 'Author contributions', or additional information is added by the original authors (Version 2);
   4. manuscripts may be updated and extended - particularly with added information and coauthors from other laboratories (Versions 3, 4, ..)
4. All versions have a specific DOI version number, such that each version remains Open Access and the discussion is added to the article page.

From journalism science to productive science

• Journalism science puts you as an actor on the stage: you play a role defined by the journal's script - playing and paying.
• A lot of productive science is given up when you sacrifice your role as an author to become a journalism player and celebrate the applause to the actor confined to the commercial playwright's script.
• Productive science cannot be performed by puppets on a string.

Editorial comments

• Additional labels: Add a label BCYYYY.# where YYYY is the year and # is the volume number - Authors 2020 Bioenergetics Comm

• MiPNet publications are O2k manuals etc.
• Bioenergetics Communications will include short scientific communications that are not ready for a MitoFit Preprint (e.g. SUIT protocols, etc).

• Write the DLD file name in the table/figure legends.

• The DLD files that are shown or used in figures/tables will be copied into the publication subdirectory.
