Journal indexing

Description

Journal indexing allows publications to be found on search tools/databases. Each search tool might have different criteria of inclusion.

Reference: MitoPedia: BEC

PubMed

PubMed is a free search tool for articles in the life sciences field.
ยป PubMed
To be listed in PubMed, the journal must first be included in PubMed Central (PMC) or MEDLINE.

PMC

PubMed Central (PMC) is a free full-text archive of biomedical and life sciences publications.
ยป PMC
To be indexed in PMC:
  • The journal must have a properly registered ISSN (i.e., a confirmed record for the journal in the official Register of the ISSN International Centre).
  • The journal must be able to provide NLM (the National Library of Medicine, NIH) with immediate access to the content at a publisher or third-party site, as required by NLM's Electronic Resources policy.
  • A minimum of 25 peer-reviewed articles (e.g., original research or review articles, clinical case reports) must be published in final form.
  • The journal must meet PMC's language guidelines.

MEDLINE

MEDLINE is a database for publications in the life sciences/biomedical area.
ยป MEDLINE
To be included on MEDLINE:
  • The journal must meet the requirements of the NLM collection, as described in the NLM (the National Library of Medicine, NIH) Collection Development Guidelines.
  • Journals must be able to provide XML-tagged citation and abstract data, as described in the PubMed XML guide.
  • Article titles and abstracts should be in English.
  • Journals must have a registered ISSN. This means that there must be a confirmed record for the journal in the official Register of the ISSN International Centre. If multiple publication formats of the journal exist (i.e. print and electronic), each should have its own separate ISSN.
  • The journal should have been published for at least 12 months.
  • The journal should have published a total of at least 40 primary articles (i.e. articles that have been peer-reviewed, usually original research, reviews, or case reports).
  • Journals that have been reviewed for PMC within the last two years and were not found to meet PMCโ€™s scientific quality standard are not eligible for MEDLINE.
