O2k-Series H is the latest version of the Oroboros O2k for high-resolution respirometry and O2k-MultiSensor applications. The O2k-Series H sets a new standard in merging high-end technology and corporate social responsibility.

Features: integrated FluoRespirometry

  • The Fluorescence-control unit is integrated into the O2k-Main Unit. The new O2k-Window Frame is optimized for fixation of the Fluorescence-Sensors. The previous Window Tool, Front Fixation and Sensor-Guide are not required.
  • Smart Fluo-Sensors are pre-calibrated with sensor-specific memory and direct input into DatLab 7. O2k-Series A to G do not support the Smart Fluo-Sensors.

Electronic innovations

  • High-resolution A-D converter: The new 24 bit analogue-digital converters provide a higher precision in measurement of O2, Amp-signals (amperometric fluorometry and nitric oxide measurements), and pX-signals (potentiometric measurements).
  • Core Relative Humidity and Core Relative Temperature: In addition to the built-in ambient temperature sensor, two new measurement channels are implemented to continuously monitor conditions within the electronic Main-Unit. Such data are especially important for quality control of experiments performed at high humidity and varying external temperature.
  • A 16 GB, industry-rated flash drive is integrated for storage of calibration files and other instrument-specific data. (This function will be available upon release of a later version of DatLab).
  • USB 2.0 Hi-Speed hub (4 external ports) for additional USB devices.
  • Three internal USB ports allow further upgrades and upwards compatibility with new developments.
  • Increased energy efficiency based on the new O2k-electronics design: power consumption is 24 W at 37 °C (80% reduction compared to Series D). Running costs are substantially lower as a result of our general concept for sustainable technology. The maximal power input is 120 W.
  • O2k net weight is reduced to 13.5 kg in comparison to 21 kg in Series D.

DatLabDatLab is the O2k-Software for Data Acquisition & Analysis, specifically developed for high-resolution respirometry with the O2k-FluoRespirometer.

The newest DatLab version is included in the O2k-FluoRespirometer, and updates of DatLab are free of charge during the warranty period of the O2k.

The minimum computer requirements are Intel-Core-2 or equivalent CPU, 2GB RAM and Windows XP. However, we recommend Intel i5 or equivalent CPU, 4GB RAM, Windows 10 and SSD.
ISS-Integrated Suction SystemISS-Integrated Suction System: Suction pump 230 or 120 V with stainless steel housing, 2 liter waste bottle, filter and tubing; for siphoning off excess medium from the O2k-Stopper and for emptying the O2k-Chambers. The ISS is included as a standard component of the O2k-FluoRespirometer. Media containing living cells or microorganisms, various poisons (inhibitors, uncouplers) and mixtures of proteins and substrates are safely disposed off in the 2-litre waste bottle.

The suction pump (230 V or 120 V) is enclosed in a stainless steel housing, which holds a readily accessible mains switch, two removable receptacles for the tip of the tubing, an easily removable and safe connection to the gas filter which further connects to the fully stabilized waste bottle. The waste bottle with filter can be simply removed for emptying, cleaning and drying.

O2k-Titration SetThe O2k-Titration Set consists of Hamilton microsyringes (6 x 10 mm3 and 3 spare plungers, 6 x 25 mm3, 1 x 50 mm3, 1 x 100 mm3, 1 x 500 mm3; fixed needles with rounded tips), provided in the Syringe Storage Box with Syringe Labels, a set of two Syringe Racks with Syringe Collars, and a set of two Tube Racks. OroboPOS-HolderThe OroboPOS-Holder (POS-Holder), made from blue POM, is screwed into the copper block of the O2k-Main Unit, guiding the OroboPOS-Connector with the OroboPOS sensor head (POS) to the O2k-Chamber, and keeping the OroboPOS-Connector in a fixed position for sealing the O2k-Chamber with the OroboPOS-Seal Tip. In addition, the OroboPOS-Holder fixes the O2k-Chamber in an accurate rotational position by pressing against the angular cut of the glass chamber. OroboPOSThe OroboPOS is a polarographic oxygen sensor (POS), with an amperometric mode of operation. The OroboPOS meets the highest quality criteria in terms of linearity, stability and sensitivity of the signal. The Clark type polarographic oxygen sensor (POS) remains the gold standard for measuring dissolved oxygen in biomedical, environmental and industrial applications over a wide dynamic oxygen range. It consists of a gold cathode, a silver/silverchloride anode and a KCl electrolyte reservoir separated from the sample by a 25 µm membrane (FEP). The main body of the OroboPOS is made of PEEK. With application of a polarization voltage (0.8 V), a current is obtained as an amperometric signal, which is converted to a voltage.26000-01

Electric and lab space requirements

  • Current at 220-240 V: max. 0.5 A
  • Power consumption during standard operation (when block temperature is stable at 37 °C and ambient temperature of 22 °C): approx. 24 W
The O2k requires a minimum of lab space (0.5 m bench space) next to an external PC or laptop, with sufficient space for the ISS, Titration Set and handling.
For maximum signal stability and optimal temperature control, the O2k should be placed in a position in which it is not exposed to direct sunlight and sudden changes of room temperature. Keep the space on the table below the O2k bottom clear to prevent any interference of ventilation beneath the O2k-Main Unit.
