Octanoylcarnitine

Description

Octanoylcarnitine is a medium-chain fatty acid (octanoic acid: eight-carbon saturated fatty acid) covalently linked to carnitine, frequently applied as a substrate for fatty acid oxidation (FAO) in mitochondrial preparations.

Alternative: (ยฑ)-Octanoylcarnitine chloride, BioTrend, Cat. No. BS0136, 50 mg, store desiccate at RT; FW = 323.86.


Caution: Chemicals stored in the fridge or freezer should be allowed to reach room temperature before opening.


Preparation of 100 mM stock solution (dissolved in H2O):
  1. Weigh 50 mg of octanoylcarnitine and dissolve in 1543 ยตL H2O.
  2. Divide into 0.2 mL portions.
  3. Store at -20 ยฐC.
O2k manual titrations into 2 mL O2k-chamber
  • Titration volume: 4 ยตL using a 10 ยตL syringe.
  • Final concentration: 0.2 mM in MiR05 or MiR06. Optimum Oct concentrations have to be evaluated, particularly in media with BSA concentrations different from MiR05.
